  Reaching Sideways, Creating Our Ways

  Makhanda, Eastern Cape

  39th Annual South African Visual Arts Historians (SAVAH) Conference & Festival.

  Hosted by the Rhodes University Fine Art Department and the NRF SARChI Chair programme in Geopolitics and the Arts of Africa.

  Curatorial team: Viwe Madinda, Mpumzi Mpati, Motlalepula Phukubje, Sange Mpambani and Prof Ruth Simbao.

  Alongside the conference, artworks were exhibited across satellite venues in Makhanda, expanding the academic conference into a festival of exhibitions, performances and live art. Linde exhibited Unspoken Sacrifice, Sinful Sketch I–III, Self Tithe and Sacred Offerings / The Cost of Purification, and presented his paper ‘The Work of Water: The Ritual of Holding Grief in the Artistic Practice of Papermaking’.
